Privacy notice

The operator named above is responsible for the processing of personal data described here. You can use the contact email above for privacy enquiries.

Access to the website

When you visit, we process your IP address, the time and requested page, and information your browser sends, such as browser details and the referring page. This is necessary to deliver the website and helps us detect errors and misuse. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is the secure, reliable operation of the website.

This website is hosted by Uberspace (Jonas Pasche, Kaiserstraße 15, 55116 Mainz, Germany). Its hosting servers are located in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Uberspace processes hosting data on our behalf under a concluded data-processing agreement.

The hosting provider keeps access logs recording the time, requested address, browser details and, where supplied, referring page, response status and transferred data volume. IP addresses are truncated in these logs. Error logs can contain the requested page and error details; a seven-day retention period is configured for these.

Our current assumption is that access logs are rotated daily and retained for about seven days. The hosting provider’s retention settings are being verified.

Calculators

The calculators work without an account. We do not keep a separate record of your inputs or results. Rating values included in a page link are sent with the page request and can appear in access logs and your browser history. We use these values to provide the requested calculation under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is providing the calculator you requested.

Position images

When you generate a position image, we send the FEN or puzzle ID to Lichess (Lichess.org, France) to obtain the position and image. Your browser does not contact Lichess for the preview or download; we do not forward your IP address or cookies. We keep positions and images in a shared temporary cache for reuse for up to one hour. Expired files are removed during subsequent use, so files can remain longer if the tool is idle. Images are not associated with an account. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is providing the image you requested and avoiding repeated external requests. See the Lichess privacy policy.

Browser storage

If you select a display theme, your browser remembers that choice until you change it or delete the website's stored data. The preference contains no personal identifier and is not sent to us. This storage provides the function you explicitly requested and is based on Section 25(2)(2) TDDDG.

Administrator sign-in uses an authentication cookie. Administrator and position-image forms use a security cookie to protect against forged requests. The session normally expires after 14 days; the security cookie expires after 364 days and can be renewed during use. Signing out removes the session cookie. These serve our legitimate interest in securing sign-in and form submissions under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; necessary browser storage is based on Section 25(2)(2) TDDDG.

We do not use analytics or advertising trackers.

Email enquiries

If you email us, we process your email address, message and any other information you provide to handle your enquiry. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is responding to enquiries. For requests exercising your privacy rights, Article 6(1)(c) GDPR applies so we can meet our legal obligations. Contacting us is voluntary.

We use Gmail from Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Google may also process data outside the European Economic Area, including the United States. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; Google states that it uses standard contractual clauses for transfers not covered by an adequacy decision.

See Google's privacy policy and transfer safeguards, including how to request copies.

We delete ordinary enquiries from our mailbox within 90 days after they have been resolved. Where legal retention duties apply or records are necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims, we retain them for the required period. Google may temporarily retain deleted data in recovery and backup systems.

Your rights

Subject to the legal conditions, you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing and data portability (Articles 15–20 GDPR). Contact the operator above to exercise your rights.

Right to object: You can object to processing based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR on grounds relating to your particular situation (Article 21 GDPR).

You can complain to a data protection supervisory authority, particularly where you live or work or where an alleged infringement occurred (Article 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for this operator is the Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen (LDI NRW).
